Hex Workshop v4.2: Hex Workshop hangs during installation
If you are experiencing problems installing Hex Workshop, please try following the steps below before contacting support:
1. Make sure the installer is not running. This can be accomplished by killing the hw32v422.exe process. If you are unfamiliar with stopping processes, you can restart your computer.
2. Verify that you are installing Hex Workshop under an account with administrative permissions.
3. Clear out your Windows temporary directories before re-running the installer. To find your temp directories, please start a windows command prompt and type the command "set". After pressing enter, look for the variables "TEMP" and "TMP". Clean all files and directories from both of those directories.
If the install process continues to hang, please try re-downloading Hex Workshop. If you continue to have problems, contact support.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Hex Workshop cannot read some sectors
All known sector reading and writing problems were fixed in Hex Workshop v4.20. If you are not running v4.20 or later, please upgrade. If you are running v4.20 or later, please contact support.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Cannot find "oleacc.dll" error when starting Hex Workshop under Windows 9x/ME
This problem affected user running Windows 9x/NT 4.0ME users without Microsoft's Active Accessibility components installed. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.21 or later to fix this problem.
Hex Workshop v4.2: File Open and Select Structure do nothing
This problem affected all Windows 95, 98, ME and Windows NT users. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.21 for a resolution.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Cannot find "inetwh32.dll" error when launching Help
We failed to include this dynamically linked library in the Hex Workshop v4.2 distribution. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.21 or later to fix this problem.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Cannot find "roboex32.dll" error when launching Help
We failed to include this dynamically linked library in the Hex Workshop v4.2 distribution. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.22 of later to fix this problem.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Drag and drop not working under Windows 9x/ME
Hex Workshop failed to open files dragged and dropped onto the Editor. This problem was resolved in Hex Workshop v4.22. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.22 or later.
Hex Workshop v4.2: Repaint/redraw issues under Windwos 9x/ME
Hex Workshop stopped repainting the editor window after some amount of scrolling and/or resizing windows. This problem was caused by a resource leak in Hex Workshop. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v4.22 or later for a fix.
Hex Workshop v3.1: Crash when comparing files with a large number of differences:
A bug was introduced in Hex Workshop v3.10 that caused the editor to crash when a resynchronizing compare reported a large number of differences. This problem was fixed in Hex Workshop v3.10a
Hex Workshop v3.1 Crash when replacing data of unequal length:
The "Replace All" feature would occasionally crash Hex Workshop when replacing unequal length data. Hex Workshop v3.10a temporarily fixed this problem by disabling the "Display Highlighted Bytes" during bulk replaces.
Hex Workshop v3.1: Automatic file reload fails:
A bug was introduced into Hex Workshop v3.1 that causes the automatic file reload feature to fail. This feature automatically reloads a file if/when another application changes the contents of a file already opened in Hex Workshop. This problem will be fixed in our next maintenance release.
A bug was found where Hex Workshop fails to write a target file on application exit, notifies the end user, however, continues to exit- discarding changes. Upon error, Hex Workshop should abort the exit process and allow the user to save the file to an alternative file or drive. This problem will be fixed in our next maintenance release.
Hex Workshop v3.1: EBCDIC mapping of characters '8' and '9' are incorrect:
The character '8' should map to 0xF8 and the character '9' should map to 0xF9. This problem can be fixed by downloading a new EBCDIC character map:
http://www.bpsoft.com/support/patches/3.11/EBCDIC.mapPlease download the EBCDIC.map character map file and place this file in the CharMaps directory within your Hex Workshop program directory. In many installations, the target path will resemble: C:\Program Files\BreakPoint Software\Hex Workshop 3.1\CharMaps\
Hex Workshop v3.0: Does not run after installation (WINNT):
Hex Workshop v3.00 and v3.01 had a bug where the product would not run properly when launched from a non-administrator account. Please upgrade to Hex Workshop v3.02 if you are experiencing this problem.
NOTE: Hex Workshop must be installed under an administrator account, but will run under non-administrator accounts.
Hex Workshop v3.0: Fails to edit physical and/or logical sectors (WINNT):
Windows NT may require that users have administrative rights when sector editing some physical or logical devices. If you experience problems with sector editing and do not have administrative rights, please try promoting your account or logging in as administrator and trying again.
Hex Workshop v3.0: Crash when trying to print:
Hex Workshop v3.02 and lower had a bug where users would experience a crash when trying to print a document with a combined filename and path over ~80 characters in length. This problem has been fixed in later versions, however, may require users to move files around or shorten file names in older versions.
Alternatively, you can change default page header in page setup. This does not fix the problem, but will lessen the chance of exposing it. Within Hex Workshop, select the "Page Setup" from the "File" menu. Next, change the Header from "&l&F&r&D" to "&l&f&r&D". This tells Hex Workshop to print the file name of your document instead of the full path.
Hex Workshop v3.0: Not enough free disk space error:
Hex Workshop can open files up to 2 gigabytes in length, however, you must have ample disk space available for temporary work files. Please make sure you have disk space (2 times the size of the original document) available on the same drive as your windows temporary directory.
There are a number of preferences related to this topic:
Temporary Files in Paths Tab: If you do not have enough disk space on the same drive as your windows temporary directory then you can set a different work drive and directory for Hex Workshop.
Postpone write initialization in Configuration Tab: Hex Workshop can either create a working copy of your file when it is first opened or at the first write attempt. Checking this option will postpone creating the working copy until an operation tries to change the document.
Enable direct file editing in Configuration Tab: This option tells Hex Workshop to edit files directly and not to create a temporary working copy of your document. Please make sure you backup your documents before enabling or using this option as you may damage your original file. Hex Workshop will still need to create temporary files when insert and deleting.
